Master Sports claims HYBA Minors title

There is no sport that is more summer than baseball, and this past weekend, there was no better way to celebrate Father’s Day than a little time enjoying the nation’s favorite pastime.

There were a couple of city tournaments that went on last week in Havre, but Sunday, at Elks Park, the minor’s city championship was decided between teams sponsored by Masters Sports and Edward Jones.

Master Sports dominated in the tournament and made it through to the title game Sunday undefeated. Its opponent wound up being Edward Jones, which had to win at 9 a.m. Sunday morning, just to get into the championship game at 11.

After clawing its way into the title game, Edward Jones gave Master Sports all it could handle before falling just short of forcing a second championship game for all the marbles. Ultimately, Edward Jones lost 9-8, but made it dramatic at the end, almost rallying from a 9-4 deficit in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game.

The run that would have tied things up got all the way to second base, before pitcher Tanner Delarosa was able to get a strikeout, ending the rally and the game. Joining Delarosa on the winning team was Antrevian Gary, Cash Keller, Bodhy Lassie, Chason Mader, Reed Mantle, Aiden Nitz, Kasey Schafter, Cash Schubert, Darrell Sunchild, Taymond Stiffarm and Deven Tyler.

Edward Jones started the game in ideal fashion, grabbing two runs in the bottom of the first and jumping ahead 2-0. Master Sports took the lead in the top of the third after scoring two runs to make it 3-2, but a RBI single by Aaron Fuzesy tied the game in the bottom half of the inning at 3-3. Fuzesy also scored later to give Edward Jones a 4-3 advantage.

However, Master Sports scored six runs over the final two innings to go ahead 9-4 heading to the bottom of the fifth. Edward Jones scored four runs that inning, but failed to get the tying run across, That team consisted of Evan Baldwin, Noah Barrett, Easton Davison, Quinn Elliot, Fuzesy, David Huestis, Matthew Huse, Wyatt Jelly, Tommy Lewis, Ryder Oats, Royce Schaub and Callen Stoner.
