Local News - Centennial Mountain hike set for Saturday

Havre Trails has invited people to hike up Centennial Mountain Saturday on the Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation.

“It is a gorgeous view at the summit and a moderate-to-difficult 4.5 mile round-trip hike up a two-track road switchbacking up the mountain,” Havre Trails said in a release. “This hike takes approximately three hours round trip. All are welcome to join and take as much time as needed hiking.”

The Chippewa Cree Tribal Council and Natural Resources Department have granted Havre Trails a group recreation permit that allows them to hike on the reservation. Individuals can purchase a permit from the Tribal Natural Resources Department by calling Lucilla at 406-395-4207.

For Saturday’s hike, people are asked to bring sun protection, appropriate footwear and clothing, lunch/snacks for the summit and lots of water. If this hike is canceled due to inclement weather conditions, it will be reported at 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning on Facebook and via phone to people who who have RSVP’d.

Date — Saturday, June 24

Meeting time — 9 a.m. — leave Havre on your own at 8:30 a.m.

Meeting place — Southweast corner of Northern Winz Casino parking lot

Hike length — Approximately 4.5 miles round-trip, 3 hours

Terrain difficulty — Mod-erately difficult — some fairly steep areas; very sun-exposed

Notes — Dogs allowed, on a leash and bring waste bags
