The Hi-Line United soccer team joined youth soccer teams from across the state in competing, in the Montana Cup this weekend. The United, who played at the U16 level, were in Livingston to compete with six other teams for the state championship.
The United opened the tournament Saturday and after posting a 1-1 record, took on Livingston Sunday in the knockout phase of the tournament. The team lost 2-1 to Livingston, despite a goal from Mick Chagnon, which ended its run. The United tied for third place with an overall record of 1-2.
“The kids played one heck of a game,” United head coach Jayson Burrington said. “We payed hard and never gave up. I think we will have a great team next year.”
Prior to losing to Livingston Sunday, the United opened their tournament Saturday against Lewistown and thanks to goals from Max Olson and Jacob Van Wagner, they won 2-1. Olson also added an assist.
However, the United were not as successful in the evening Saturday against Livingston. The final score in that game was 4-1. Olson scored the lone goal for the United. In all, he had three goals and two assists in three games.
