Zachary Frahm has received the Dr. David and Gloria Almas Scholarship for the 2017-2018 school year to Montana State University-Northern, the scholarship committee announced.
Frahm, the son of Steven and Michelle Frahm of Havre, graduated from Havre High School last month with a 3.522 GPA and is planning on earning a bachelor's degree in diesel tchnology, welding and automotive technology at Northern, the committee said in a release.
Activities for Frahm have included Havre High School marching band, TSA, Skills USA, bass choir and auto engine class technical assistant as well as participating in Havre youth hockey, Havre Trap League and Volunteer Recycling for U.S. Border Patrol.
The scholarship is an annual endowed monetary scholarship and laptop computer given in memory of Dr. David and Mrs. Gloria Almas, who were lifelong Havre residents. David Almas' father, Dr. Joseph S. Almas, started his medical practice in the 1890s in Havre and David Almas, a second-generation Havreite, continued the medical practice and was one of the original founders of the Havre Medical Clinic. Both of the Almases were very actively involved in Havre community activities.
Their son, Dr. James P. Almas and wife, Suzanne, who reside in Jackson, Mississippi, and daughter, Emily, all participated in the selection of the candidates.
MSU-Northern Foundation Scholarship ex officio members are Gail Rader and Renelle Braaten.
