At Thursday night's Havre High spring sports awards banquet, HHS Activities Director Dennis Murphy announced the 2016-17 Blue Pony Athletes of the Year.
Havre senior Jase Stokes was named the Male Athlete of the Year. In his career, Stokes lettered nine times, and was Class All-State six times, including twice in football and four in wrestling. Of course Stokes, along with teammate Parker Filius, became HHS’ first true four-time state wrestling champions this past February in Billings. Stokes also helped the Blue Pony wrestling team to four state championships in his HHS career.
Stokes will continue his athletic career at Montana Tech where he'll play football for head coach Chuck Morrell and the Orediggers.
Naomi Terry was named Female Athlete of the Year. In her four years at HHS, Terry lettered 10 times, including four in basketball. She was a two-time Class A All-State selection for head coach Dustin Kraske, while earning All-State once in track. Terry was also All-Conference in basketball, track and volleyball during her time at HHS. She was also part of Havre High's 2014 Class A state championship in basketball.
Terry is also headed to college sports. She'll play basketball for head coach Chris Mouat and the MSU-Northern Skylights starting in the fall.
Havre High's three-sport athletes were also honored on Thursday night. This past school year, Havre had 37 students who participated in three sports, or three activities.
