Grief Poem

I Wish YouWere Here Once Again

Another day has slipped away; we wish we still were two.

But now you’re safe, no longer ill, off to heaven you flew.

Down here on earth the flowers bloom, three deer came by to graze.

Though sun shines bright and grass is green, our heart’s still in a daze.

The wash is done, the beds are made; our guests now travel on.

They were great help and lots of fun; next job is mowing lawn!

Full week ahead, wish you were here, ‘t’would help my heart to mend.

And coming up, some happy times; three weddings to attend!

I wish you were with me again — but can’t ‘shift’ in reverse;

But God does care — HE is with us, this place, this universe.

Soft summer nights, sweet be our dreams; when will our journey start?

We know not when or even how, but it will heal our heart.

Meanwhile our job on earth must be to weep with those who weep[1],

HE wraps HIS arms around each one; each person’s pain is deep.

Compassion, Lord, we ask from You, for ways to show Your love.

Humble our words and live in us — till we all meet above.
