Local gridders set to play in Class C all-star games

Spring sports ended a mere five days ago. Now though, a traditional fall sport will take center stage.

Saturday night marks the start of the high school football all-star circuit, with the annual Six-Man All-Star Game in Custer, and the Bob Cleverly 8-Man All-Star Game to be held in Butte.

And in both games, the Hi-Line will be well represented.

In the Six-Man game, North Star's Keavan Borlaug, Cade Chivilicek, and Big Sandy's Laurence Allderdice will play for the Red Team, coached by Hot Springs' head man Jim Lawson. The local trio will also be joined on the roster with several more players from the Six-Man North Division, including Heart Butte star running back Chasen Kipp and Louis Aron of Geraldine-Highwood. The opposing Blue Team will be coached by Troy Walters of Westby-Grenora.

In Butte, four local athletes will be playing in the annual 8-Man showdown. Chinook's Tate Niederegger, a running back and linebacker will play for the Red Team, coached by Mike Nelson of Great Falls Central. Niederegger will be joined by three stars from Chester-Joplin-Inverness in quarterback Cory Richter, as well as two-way standouts Cory Kelly and Brett Henke. Former Chester star and current Belt head coach Jeff Graham is also an assistant coach for the Red Team. On the other side of the field, Gardiner's Mike Baer will coach the Red Team.

Saturday night's games begin a five-game stretch of all-star games this summer. The Class B All-Star Game is set for next Saturday in Billings, while the Badlands Bowl, the annual showdown between Montana and North Dakota, is set for June 17 in Miles City. The all-star games culminate with the 2017 Montana East-West Shrine Game July 15 in Billings.

Saturday night's Six-Man All-Star game kicks off at 7 p.m. in Custer, while the Bob Clevlerly 8-Man All-Star game also kicks off at 7 p.m. in Butte.
