Wayne M. Nold, 63, passed away at home May 19, 2017. He had become fondly known as "The Noldinator," determinator, during his fight against cancer at the Havre Sletten Cancer Center.
Per his request, cremation has taken place and a private burial will be held at a later date. A celebration of Wayne's life will be held with friends and family Saturday, June 10, at 3 p.m. at the Havre Eagles Club, 202 First St.
Arrangements have been made by Hi-Line Funeral Home.
Wayne was born April 30, 1954, in Havre to Aloyse "Shorty" Nold and Christine Lipp, joining a sister, Donna Rae. The family lived a short time in Havre before moving to Hingham, where they remained following his father's death in a boating accident at Tiber Reservoir in May 1959.
His mother married Frank Bohl in 1963 and to this union a son, Ralph, was born, and the family eventually moved to Fort Benton.
Wayne left home during high school, moving to Havre where he worked and attended school. He moved to Shelby with the Edward and Shirley Gardipee family and graduated from Shelby High in 1972. He remained there and worked several years as a diesel mechanic for Toole County Implement, before he moved back to Havre, where he started his own Bobcat service and landscaping business.
He married Sharon Anderson April 21, 1979, and they were able to celebrate their 38th wedding anniversary and his birthday, which he celebrated with velvet ditch and ice cream cake with the "Rock Suckers" before his death.
He closed his business and began working for Bill Baltrusch Construction in the early 1980s. He was always willing to learn the business from all who took the time to share their knowledge. As he grew at Baltrusch, he was very proud of the crew he worked with, considering them the best of the best, especially those who could put up with his bullheaded stubbornness and hot German temper, along with his wisecracks and quirky laugh, which he had inherited from his father. He was happiest running heavy equipment, digging numerous basements for new homes and laying infrastructure for new home developments, and he became well-known for his many demolition projects.
He separated from the company after 25 years' work, but remained steadfast in his loyalty to the company and Bill Baltrusch, considering him his teacher, mentor and friend.
He worked a short time for SK Construction and Riverside Contracting and began private subcontracting and working for Jacobson Drilling for several years. Bob Jacobson continued his support through Wayne's battle with cancer.
Through the years, Wayne enjoyed hunting, camping, boating and the many trips to Zortman with family, friends and good buddy Donny Nelson, hill climbing with their motorcycles. He also enjoyed patio parties with the "Rock Suckers" group. He was Santa Claus for many years for the Special Education students at Devlin School, and he built a wheelchair swing for the kids.
Wayne enjoyed a good velvet ditch and keno machines. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, believing "what goes around, comes around." He was not afraid to take on any job, except the dreaded "Honey Do" list.
He was preceded in death by his parents; aunts, Anna Lipp and Catherine Mangold; uncles, Leonard and Joe Nold; and good friend Donny Nelson.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; stepfather, Frank Bohl of Havre; father-in-law, Ralph Anderson of Havre; sister, Donna Rae (Orville) Kelley of Billings; brother, Ralph (Carrie) Bohl of Havre; aunt, Jean Nold Blevins of Mississippi; and the Edward and Shirley Gardipee family of Shelby.
Wayne also will be missed by best friends, Gary and Lynn Crossler, numerous nieces and nephews, the Maristuen kids, Thea (Borg) and Seth, who considered him "Uncle Wayne."
Memorials can be made to Havre Sletten Cancer Center, Bear Paw Hospice, a favorite animal rescue or a charity of the donor's choice.
