From Tee to Green...
Last spring, it was the Chinook boys. This year, the Sugarbeeter girls took their turn.
Last week at the Double Arrow Golf Club in Seeley Lake, the Chinook girls golf team brought home a third-place trophy from the Class C state tournament. Chinook scored a 695 to finish behind only state champ Manhatten Christian and Belt.
The Chinook girls were led by a sixth-place finish from Carrie Hofer. Hofer shot rounds of 105-107 to earn Class C All-State honors. Ashley McLeod, Kelsey Mathon and Charley Anderson also scored for the Sugarbeeter girls. Congrats, ladies.
The Chinook boys finished with a team total 673 at the state tournament. Meanwhile, Rocky Boy’s Chris Arkinson scored a 17th-place finish at the Class B state tournament last week in Shelby. Arkinson was just three strokes out of a Top 15 finish.
Congrats to all of our local golfers on a great spring.
Back in the league golf scene, the ladies continued their early season at Prairie Farms last Thursday night. Double R was high team with 22.5 points. The team was composed of Ali Ward, Debbie Rotz, Connie Peterson and Tammy Boles. Ward was also low gross with a 40 and Katie Heath was low net with a 32.
In men's league last Tuesday, Wagner Plumbing was high team with 24.5 points. Dan Wagner, Russ Earl, Dan Kiederowski and Greg Baltrusch made up the team. Kyle Sheppard was low gross with an even 36, while Mike Rappold was low net with a 31.5. Last Wednesday saw Michelob Lights earn high-team honors. Jimmy Kato, Chad Spangler, Tom Adams and Scott Adams composed the team. Kato was low gross with a 38, while Chad Edgar was low net with a 32.
Meanwhile, the tournament scene will be heating up soon enough in our area, and one of the first is the annual Golfing for a Cure for Cancer Tournament. This year’s event, put on by the Havre Women’s Golf Association, is set for June 3 at Prairie Farms. This tournament is a way to support those battling all forms of cancer. Last year, the association raised approximately $22,000 to assist in defraying the costs associated with cancer to anyone along the Hi-Line who is making the courageous battle with any type of cancer.
