Mother’s Day
You know, Lord, sometimes one needs a little help doing some things; then along came Charles S. Ross with a “thought” about Mothers.
“Old Mothers” by Charles S. Ross: “I love old mothers — mothers with white hair and kindly eyes, and lips grown softly sweet with murmured blessings over sleeping babes. There is a something in their quiet grace that speaks the calm of Sabbath afternoons; a knowledge in their deep, unfaltering eyes that far outreaches all philosophy. Time, with caressing touch, about them weaves the silver-threaded fairy shawl of age, while all the echoes of forgotten songs seem joined to lend sweetness to their speech. Old mothers! As they pass with slow-timed step their trembling hands cling gently to youth’s strength. Sweet mothers! As they pass, one sees again old garden walks, old roses and old love.”
Then a poem: “Deep in each heart God puts the need of a love that is tender and strong, the need of one who will understand each sorrow and share each song. And to us all, He grants one gift sweeter than any other, to answer this need for tenderness; He gives us each a MOTHER!” — Author unknown
Who among us has not experienced this? “Hearing a loud crash in the kitchen, mother called out; ‘More dishes?’ The quick
answer came, ‘No, Mother. Less!’”
A reflection: The loneliest place in the world is the human heart when love is absent.
A riddle? A token I give to help with this game, Love beyond measure — it’s all in a name. Riddle me right, there can be no other, God’s greatest gift? The answer is mother!
Thank you, Lord, for Proverbs 31: 9-31. Verses 28 and 29: “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Thank You, Lord for our dear mothers.
Love, Mara
