Havre High School lists Students of the Month

Jaryn Beckman is one of Havre High School's April 2017 Students of the Month.

Jaryn is the daughter of Christina Beckman and Joseph Chamberlin. Her sisters are Emilee Cariveau, 16, and Ashlee Christina, 21.

As a sophomore at Havre High School, Jaryn participates in Art Club, Spanish Club and Key Club. Jaryn also works at Dairy Queen and participates with a youth group. She enjoys spending time with friends and family and traveling whenever possible. Jaryn's hobbies include singing, photography and art.

Diana Coy submitted the nomination because, she said, Jaryn is a conscientious worker. Jaryn "does what needs to be done, simply because it needs to be done, with a smile on her face." Coy also said Jaryn "demonstrates true maturity" and is "the definition of citizenship."

Jaryn plans on going to bible college and then attend beauty school to study cosmetology.

Derek Small was chosen as Havre High's other April 2017 Student of the Month.

Derek is the son of Yolanda Small-Melby. His grandmother is Elaine Small and his siblings are Talyn Kittson and J'Shon Small.

Derek is a senior this year and faculty say he has been an absolute joy to have in the school.

Derek was nominated by multiple members of the high school faculty and staff this month. They said his nomination is based on his attitude and demeanor in every environment he is involved in. He works hard in class and, "Derek is a fun loving and caring student. He attends well in class and tries to the best of his ability." Derek consistently has a smile on his face and brings a smile to those around him. Derek "has a way of knowing when a person needs a hug or a pat on the back to make their day better. Derek is open to trying new subjects and doesn't get frustrated easily." Derek is very quick to complete his work without hesitation or complaint. While in the library, Derek is full of energy and is very thoughtful when selecting a book for class. Derek's presence in the school has had a positive effect on those around him.

Derek said he plans to go to work after high school. He would also like to go to college.
