Comments sought on Travelers' Rest interpretive plaza

From Montana State Parks

Montana State Parks announced today that it is seeking public comment on a draft Environmental Assessment for a proposed Flag and Crossroads Interpretive Plaza at Travelers’ Rest State Park in Lolo with a June 5 comment deadline.

The proposed Flag and Crossroads Interpretive Plaza would create a new interpretive area reusing an existing trail and creating a new trail to facilitate access to the parking area. The project would also include the installation of new interpretive signage, the relocation of some existing interpretive signage, installation of four new flag poles, and a new underground irrigation system to irrigate the interpretive area.

Construction of the new interpretive area would improve access and the overall traffic flow in the park while enhancing the visitor experience for the public. An existing trail would be reclaimed, thereby reducing the overall development footprint. The underground irrigation system would replace the current garden hose/sprinkler arrangement, providing better coverage and reducing water use.

The public comment period will be open for 30 days. Public comments will be accepted through Monday, June 5, at 5 p.m.

The public can submit written comments to Travelers’ Rest State Park, ATTN: Flag and Crossroads Plaza, PO Box 995, Lolo, MT., or via email to [email protected].
