Local Golf Report: MSU-N wraps up its season

From Tee to Green...

May has arrived, and hopefully, that means the local golf season will be hitting its full stride.

Last week however, saw one golf season come to an end. The Montana State University-Northern men’s and women’s golf teams competed in last week’s Frontier Conference Championships in Phoenix, Arizona. The Lights and Skylights, led by head coach Dave Boles, each finished sixth at the Frontier tourney.

On the men’s side, the Lights finished with a team total of 1,097. Sophomore Devin Bray paced the Lights with a 252 after shooting rounds of 86-84-82. Bray finished in 26th place overall. William Miller was 27th with rounds of 88-85-89, while former Havre Blue Pony Jerod Boles was 28th with scores of 90-96-82. Tyler Tharp rounded out the scoring for the Lights with rounds of 110-107-98. Lewis-Clark State won the men’s Frontier title with a team total of 893.

On the women’s side, the Skylights shot a team score of 1,293. Diana Ball finished in 23rd place with a 302. She shot rounds of 98-110-94. Whitney Barhns was next with a 307 at 110-96-101. Carrigan Jones shot scores of 106-113-101 and Molly Kreycik shot 120-120-124. The LC State women also won the team title.

Speaking of seasons winding down, for local high school golf teams like Chinook, Harlem and Rocky Boy, the Class B-C high school golf season is in its home stretch as well. And this weekend will be a busy one. Harlem will host the Harlem Invitational on Friday, and Chinook will host the Chinook Invite Saturday at the Chinook Golf Club. Class B State Golf is set for Marias Valley Golf Club in Shelby May 16-17 and Class C State Golf will be played at Double Arrow Golf Club in Seeley Lake the same weekend.

Back on the home front, men’s league got underway last week at both Prairie Farms Golf Course and Beaver Creek Golf Course.

Last Tuesday at Prairie Farms, Korb Construction was high team with 23 points. Jeremy Jensen was low gross with a 37 and Spike Magelssen was low net with a 31. Last Wednesday saw Jensen earn low gross again with an even-par 36, while Dave Herman was low net with a 33. Mariani Insurance earned high-team honors with 22 points.
