HHS's Parsons among new Northern cross country recruits

When the 2017 Frontier Conference cross country season begins, the Montana State University-Northern Lights and Skylights will have some exciting new runners. Head coach Chad Spangler recently announced the signings of six new athletes to his program

Included in the new signees is Havre High’s Nicole Parsons, who has spent the last two seasons running for the Blue Pony cross country team, as well as being a standout softball player at HHS.

“I’m looking forward to working with her because I get the sense that she will work hard for her team,” Spangler said.

Also coming to Northern is Lewistown’s Kai Krumwiede, who is a standout distance runner on the Lewistown track team, as well as an All-Conference performer in cross country. Krumwiede, who is expected to contend for a varsity spot right away, is planning on majoring in civil engeineering at Northern. Gabe Hallock, a senior at Glasgow High School will also be joining the Northern men’s team. Spangler expects Hallock, who also runs distance for the Scottie track team, to make an impact in his first year at Northern. Hallock will major in automotive technology at MSU-N.

“I like that Gabe has been a multi-sport athlete and likes to work hard and compete, that’s what we’re trying to build in our young program. Guys like Kai and Gabe are exactly what we need,” Spangler said.

Harley Dowling is coming to Northern from Roundup High School. He is a young runner and still developing. His spring track times are encouraging and with a productive summer, he could be part of the growing pack of front runners.

“Harley seems to be one of those athletes that will do everything he’s asked and will be a good teammate,” Spangler said.

Harley plans to study diesel technology at Northern.

The Lights also inked Amos Taiswa, who is transferring to Northern from Embry Riddle University. Taisaw is originally from Kilgoris, Kenya, and Spangler says he’ll bring some needed experience to a young team.

“He brings collegiate experience and a strong appreciation for his opportunity to run and study. I am expecting Amos to help us be more competitive this season and can’t wait to meet him,” Spangler said.

Taiswa will major in civil engineering at Northern.

Joining the Skylights will be Ronan runner Ashley McCready. She was a top 20 runner during her senior cross country season and is having a good track season right now. She has also been coached by very knowledgeable runners and will probably be very influential on the women’s side.

“I’m really excited to get Ashley and Rachel David training together, I really see them pushing each other and pulling the rest of team up with them,” Spangler said.

McCready will major in graphic design at MSU-N.

Spangler said he will continue to recruit for the 2017 season and will announce future recruits as they sign. The Lights and Skylights will open their 2017 season at Carroll College Sept. 8.
