For the second time this spring, the Montana State University-Northern Rodeo Team got into the dirt.
The Lights and Skylights traveled to Glendive and Miles City for the Dawson Community College and Miles Community College rodeos last weekend.
The weekend kicked off Thursday night in Glendive with Yancy Hawley a sophomore from Hays, winning the long round of the saddle bronc with a 73-point ride. Calonna Slade had a solid showing in the barrel racing, posting a fast time of 17.84. Two solid runs helped her to earn a fourth-place finish in the barrel racing.
Andrew Leo and Victor Phillips rounded out the team roping with a sixth-place finish. Tate Benson wrapped up the DCC rodeo by winning the tie-down roping championship Friday night. Benson led the men's team to a fifth-place finish, and the Lights hold on to their fourth-place standing in the Big Sky Region.
Saturday saw the Lights and Skylights rodeoing in Miles City. Miles Community College conducted their first college rodeo in their newly built Agriculture Advancement Center, a state-of-the-art facility that was just finished.
George Marcenko led the way in Miles City, tying his calf down in 8.1 seconds to win the long round for the Lights. Zane Marcenko also had a Top 10 finish in the tie-down roping, as well as Yancy Hawley finishing fifth in the saddle bronc.
The Skylights were led by Calonna Slade with her second-place finish in the long round of the barrel racing.
The Lights and Skylights will be in Missoula this weekend for the University of Montana Rodeo.
