Local Golf Report: Lights, Skylights play in Arizona

From Tee to Green...

The cold, wind and rain seems like it's here to stay, but plenty of exciting golf is being played on the local scene.

Perhaps the biggest golf being played locally right now is actually happening in Phoenix, Arizona, where the Montana State University-Northern Lights and Skylights are competing in the annual Frontier Conference Championships.

On the men's side, the Lights are currently in sixth place with a 36-hole total of 746. The Lights are led by Devin Bray, who is in 26th place, followed by William Miller in 27th, Jerod Boles in 28th and Tyler Tharp in 29th.

The Skylights are also in sixth place in the women's tournament with a two-day total of 873. Whitney Barhms is in 23rd overall, followed by Diana Ball in 25th, Carrigan Jones in 26th and Molly Kreycik in 28th place.

The Frontier tournament concludes today, and we'll have full results in next week's From Tee to Green.

The Chinook golf teams have also been in action recently, including in Shelby last week. The Chinook girls finished second at the Valier/Sunburst Invitational, with Carrie Hofer earning a Top 10 finish. The Sugarbeeter boys placed fifth in the tournament, led by Kade Friede's second-place finish. Rocky Boy's Chris Arkinson also finished fifth in the tourney.

On the league golf scene, men's league at Prairie Farms began Tuesday night, and will continue tonight, weather permitting. League golf also begins at Beaver Creek Golf Course Thursday. Last week, the BCGC men's league held a season-opening scramble.

Women’s league at Prairie Farms doesn’t begin until May, with the first night being a fun night May 4. There will be open golf for anyone playing on a league team starting at 5:30 p.m., with the annual league meeting to follow.
