Department of Revenue seeks nominations for the 2017 Alcohol Education Summit

From Montana Department of Revenue

HELENA — The Montana Department of Revenue is seeking nominations for this year’s Alcohol Education Summit awards.

These awards honor individuals or groups who have worked towards a reduction of alcohol abuse in their communities, and across the state.

“There are many individuals and groups who work hard to reduce alcohol abuse in their communities. The issue is much broader than just drinking and driving. There are many other social issues that occur as a result of alcohol abuse, such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, child abuse, and even trips/falls and drownings,” said Lisa Scates, alcohol education coordinator for the Liquor Control Division. “These individuals strive to improve the quality of life for our residents, educate people on the effects of abuse, and save lives and we want to honor them.”

People can help the state recognize the efforts of Montanans who dedicate themselves to educating our communities, and bringing light to this important issue. There are several nomination categories: Outstanding Community Program of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, Prevention Specialist of the Year, State Certified Alcohol Server Trainer of the Year, DUI Task Force of the Year, Community Coalition of the Year, and Outstanding Service.

People can call 406-444-4307 or 406-444-6457 or email LiScates@mt.gov or KCollins@mt.gov for a detailed description of each category and a nomination form. Submit nominations by June 1, 2017. Award recipients will be honored at the 2017 Alcohol Education Summit in August.
