Chamber: Do not post yard sale signs on trees, lights, traffic boxes

From Havre Area Chamber of Commerce

With the hint of spring comes a weekend activity in the Havre community - garage sales.

And with garage sales comes the posting of signs all over the community. The Downtown Revitalization Group has worked to add art and color to the community through the pictures that cover nine traffic control boxes in the community. This group is asking that signs, posters and such, not be taped to this boxes.

They also hope that community members hosting garage sales will work with the Havre Daily News, as a new garage sale sign program was developed last summer in partnership with the paper. Through a generous donation of sign holders the Havre Daily News provides the wire frames along with their garage sale promotion kit. The wire frames are placed into the ground thus not damaging trees, lamppost and fences. Once a sale is over people are asked to gather their signs so they don't become litter.

The wire frames can be reused by people or returned to the HDN for recycling to another garage sale customer

A city ordinance states the posting of bills is unlawful within the city limits and there is the potential for fines to be levied when the ordinance is violated. While the ordinance doesn't note trees, it is hopeful that community members discontinue posting signs on trees along Fifth Avenue. This is harmful to the trees and eventually becomes litter.

5-1-7: POSTING OF BILLS:
