Glacier Youth Corps offers opportunity

WEST GLACIER — Montana students, ages 15-17, are encouraged to apply for the Glacier Youth Corps program working in Glacier National Park this summer. 

The program provides a hands-on conservation opportunity with duties such as fencing, trail maintenance, habitat restoration and revegetation, while living and learning in the park. 

The program consists of two, four-week sessions, June 12 to July 7, and July 17 to August 11. Youth are encouraged to apply for one four-week session.  Participants will spend the second weekend at their home, but will camp for the remainder of each session.

“This is a fun opportunity to spend time outdoors, in a spectacular setting, while making a contribution to Glacier National Park,”  Glacier National Park Superintendent Jeff Mow said.

This experience may help students build an impressive resume for college or a career, and demonstrate commitment to volunteerism in the local community. Participants will earn a $200 service award from Montana Conservation Corps for each four-week session. 

Glacier Youth Corps is a partnership of the Glacier National Park Conservancy, Montana Conservation Corps, the National Park Foundation, and the National Park Service. The Glacier National Park Conservancy will continue to pursue funding throughout the year to sustain the program in 2018.
