Obituary: Mary Ann Peterson

Mary Ann Peterson, 77, passed away March 28, 2017, after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.

Mary Ann was born in Havre, Montana, June 24, 1939, to Woodrow "Mac" and Ann (Bolta) McLain. She married Ira F. "Pete" Peterson Feb. 7, 1959, in Havre at St. Jude Catholic Church. They had four children, Greg, Barbara, Tammy and Tim.

Mary Ann chose to be a stay-at-home mom. She took pride that everyone left the house freshly pressed, with no hair out of place. Mary Ann drove the children around the state to all sporting events. She was a Cub Scout den mother to both the boys, and very active with the girls' Brownie and Girl Scout troops.Neighborhood children loved Mary Ann's Halloween parties.

Mary Ann had a green thumb. The flowers and plants just seemed to love the extra care she gave them. Her yard was the envy of the neighborhood. Mary Ann and Ira took great pride in their home. They enjoyed hosting special dinners and loved decorating for the holidays. Their front yard Christmas scene was appreciated by many Havre residents throughout the holiday season.

Mary Ann and Ira had the opportunity to travel across the United States and Canada, collecting bells and magnets along the way. Mary Ann enjoyed going to Broadway plays and fine meals in new cities, but truly loved holding hands with and being in the company of the love of her life, Ira. In February, they celebrated 58 years of true love and happiness. Her children and grandchildren held a special place in her heart. She will be forever loved and missed by her family.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Ann McLain, and her daughter, Tammy McLaughlin.

She is survived by her husband, Ira; her children Greg (Pam) Peterson of Everett, Washington, Barbara (Bill) Clayton of Havre and Tim (Annette) Peterson of Helena; her five grandchildren, Travis (Silver Banks) Solberg, Steven (Krystal) Peterson, Justin (Samantha) Solberg, Ethan Peterson and Claire Peterson; her two great-grandsons, Mason Peterson and Brody Solberg; her siblings, Frank, John (Carolyn), Greg and Bernadette McLain; and numerous nieces and nephews.
