A Havre man received five years probation Monday in District Court in Havre for driving drunk and reaching speeds of up to 80 miles an hour.
Gary A. Gladeau, born in 1965, was sentenced to five years, all suspended.
After hearing a report of a possible forced entry May 24, 2105, a Montana Highway Patrol trooper eventually pulled over someone in a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle that had reportedly left the scene, a court document says. The vehicle had been traveling at 80 miles per house in a 55 mph zone and, because of the nature of the call, the trooper drew his handgun and asked the driver to show his hands through the vehicle window.
“The driver did not initially put his hands out the window, and (the trooper) had to order him multiple times to put his hands out the window,” the document says.
The driver, Gladeau, eventually complied and showed his hands.
Gladeau was slow to comply with the officer’s commands to fully exit the vehicle, the document says. After seeing that Gladeau was unarmed the trooper holstered his firearm.
Gladeau smelled of alcohol and was being uncooperative, the document says.
“Gladeau seemed confused, and it sounded like he slurred his words,” it says.
Gladeau told the officer he had headphones on because he was listening to music, and when the trooper pointed out they were unplugged, he said, “Yes.”
“Gladeau was showing indicators of being impaired,” documents say.
After obtaining a search warrant, a sample of Gladeau’s blood was collected for evidence.
