2017 Havre Daily All Hi-Line Boys Team

It seems as though there is rarely a year when the Havre Daily News All Hi-Line Boys Team isn’t loaded with eye-popping, high-scoring, star-studded players. And, after an exciting winter of boys high school basketball on the Hi-Line, this year’s version is no different.

The 2017 All Hi-Line Boys Team features just three repeat performers and, for the first time in six years, doesn’t feature a freshman. However, the team is still loaded with outstanding players, including at least one player from all three of the area’s classifications. The team, which has players from Havre High, Rocky Boy, Box Elder, Hays-Lodge Pole, Chester-Joplin-Inverness, Chinook and North Star, is also senior heavy with nine.

So once again, the All Hi-Line Boys Team shows just how great a season it was in high school basketball around these parts.

Pernell Morsette, Box Elder

Most places Morsette would be a repeat performer with the career he’s had at Box Elder. But the standout point guard is making his first appearance on the All Hi-Line Team because he’s played with so many great teammates over the years who have made the list. Still, Morsette has had an incredible career for head coach Jeremy MacDonald, including helping the Bears to four straight 9C titles, and the 2016 Class C state championship. In his senior campaign, Morsette averaged better than 20 points per game, while earning Class C All-State honors for the second straight season.

Tyson Shambo, HLP

Shambo made the All Hi-Line Team as a sophomore and is now back on the list as a senior. This season has been a magical one for the T-Birds, who won the Northern C and finished fourth at a loaded State C tournament. Shambo scored nearly 15 points per game, after recovering from an injury-plagued junior season, and that earned him not only All Hi-Line honors for the second time in his outstanding career, but also Class C All-State honors for the third time.

Frank Runs Above, HLP

Runs Above is a repeat performer on the All Hi-Line Team, and one of three T-Birds to make the 2017 list. A standout guard, Runs Above averaged nearly 16 points and five assists per game this season, and over the last two he averaged 14 points per night. He also was part of HLP's incredible run this postseason, which included three rivalry games against Box Elder, a Northern C title and a fourth-place finish at the Class C state tourney earlier this month in Bozeman. Runs Above also earned Class C All-State honors for the second straight year.

Nate Korb, Havre

Korb is one of two Blue Ponies to make the list, and deservedly so after a breakout senior season. Korb started for the Ponies as a sophomore and junior but took on a much bigger role this season, leading HHS in rebounding. Korb, who is headed to Montana Tech to play football for the Orediggers, is also a standout tennis player for the Ponies.

Trey Henderson, Box Elder

Henderson’s appearance on the All Hi-Line Team means multiple Box Elder players have made the list for five straight seasons. Henderson’s senior season was filled with highlight dunks and outstanding shooting as he averaged 14 points and seven rebounds on his way to Class C All-State honors. He also helped the Bears win their fifth consecutive 9C championship last month in Havre.

Cory Richter, CJI

It was a tough year for the Hawks, but Richter was incredible from start to finish. He led the District 9C in scoring, averaging nearly 22 points per game, and had multiple 30-point games over the course of his final season at CJI. For his efforts, he also pulled off a double-double and being named Class C All-State in both football and basketball in the same season.

Kendall Windy Boy, Rocky Boy

Windy Boy is another repeat performer on the All Hi-Line Team. The 6-8 sophomore burst onto the season as a freshman, and continued his fine play this season — a season in which the Stars won the District 1B title, and came within a game of reaching the Class B state tournament. Windy Boy, who earned All 1B honors, averaged 10 points and 12 rebounds per game this season and will certainly be considered one of the top post players in Class B next season.

Isaac Bell, Chinook

Bell is one of two Sugarbeeter sophomores to make the All Hi-Line Team. The tall sophomore guard had a strong season, averaging double figures, while also playing point guard at times for head coach Mike Seymour. Bell earned 9C honors this season, and is a versatile, do-it-all type of player who, with his size and 3-point shooting ability, is turning into one of the most difficult matchups in all of Class C basketball.

Jace Shambo, HLP

It was certainly a banner year for the T-Birds, and, senior Jace Shambo was a big reason why. The inside-out forward played a big role all season, averaging 13 points and seven rebounds per game. But he came up even bigger during the T-Bird’s postseason run. In the 9C, Northern C and State C tournaments, Shambo averaged 18 points and eight rebounds per game on his way to Northern C honors.

Cord Schneider, Chinook

Schneider had a breakout sophomore season for the Beeters, as they advanced to the Northern C Divisional, and played really well while they were in Great Falls. The 6-8 forward is a dominant post presence, it showed as he averaged 13 points and nine rebounds per game on his way to Class C All-State honors. And he, Bell and the rest of Chinook’s young guns are coming back next year as one of the teams to beat in Class C.

Ben Iron Eyes, Rocky Boy

Iron Eyes was a scoring machine this season for the Stars, averaging 16 points per game. He was also one of the top 3-point shooters in the area, as he earned District 1B All-Conference honors and helped the Stars to the 1B championship last month in Cut Bank. The junior also returns to help give Rocky Boy a team that will have its eyes on the state championship next season.

Isaac Warp, Havre

For the fifth year in a row, a Warp makes the All Hi-Line Team. This time though it’s Blue Pony senior Isaac Warp. The shooting guard was strong for head coach Curt Leeds this season, as he averaged 10 points per game and was one of the top 3-point shooters in the Central A Conference.

Keevan Borlaug, North Star

It was a great season for the North Star Knights, one of their best in a decade, and Borlaug was a key reason why. In the paint, Borlaug, a senior who is also an All-State football player, was tough, averaging 11 points and eight rebounds per game for a North Star squad who came within one win of reaching the Northern C Divisional
