Rocky Boy says emergency hearing set

ROCKY BOY— A request for an emergency court hearing for the Chippewa Cree Tribe has been granted and scheduled for Wednesday, Chippewa Cree Tribe Business Committee Chair Harlan Gopher Baker said this morning after an administrative meeting in the tribal chambers.

The meeting came a day after the tribe filed for an emergency hearing.,

In a letter Monday, Baker said tribal accounts had been improperly frozen by BEH Gaming Ltd. of Florida.

He added that though the frozen accounts will make it more difficult, the tribe is still able to provide essential services including law enforcement, electricity, water and food assistance to tribal members.

Baker said in his letter that though BEH was allowed in a judgement to access money from Northern Winz Casino, it had improperly frozen money from other tribal accounts.

District Judge Dan Boucher ruled in February that the tribe has to pay more than $25 Million to BEH in repayment of loans for the construction, upgrade and operation of the casino.
