Havre schools receive threat, disperse officers

Officials say no one in danger

Police officers have been dispersed and posted at all the Havre public schools today after a threat aimed at Havre High School was made Thursday evening, Havre Police Chief Gabe Matosich said this morning.

Havre police say in a press release issued at 11 a.m. that people came to the police station at 7:21 p.m. Thursday and reported an “implied threat being made toward the school of a possible shooting.”

Police began an investigation into the threat and notified the Havre High School administration.

The investigation is ongoing, and there is no information on the nature of the threat or where it came and to whom it was, or is, directed, Matosich said. There is no threat to anyone and no one has been hurt, he added.

The posted officers, Matosich said, are precautionary.

Havre Public Schools administration issued a statement saying, “The administration, in cooperation with the Havre Police department determined through a thorough investigation that there was no immediate threat to the school, staff or students.”

Havre Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Craig Mueller said the schools had never been in a lockdown.

“The district is not on lockdown. However, we have asked staff to be extra vigilant supervising students as a result of this unfortunate series of events,” a statement issued by the district says. “Havre Public Schools and the Havre Police are doing everything possible to keep students and staff safe and have taken measures to ensure that this incident is not taken lightly.

“Please allow the district and law enforcement the opportunity to execute and enforce their emergency operating procedures,” the statement adds.
