Press release
A new grief recovery group with a spiritual emphasis called GriefShare is being formed and will begin to meet Thursdays beginning Feb. 23 and continuing for 13 weeks.
The GriefShare group will meet weekly to help those in need face challenges and move toward rebuilding their lives.
“It may be hard for some to feel optimistic about the future right now. If someone has lost a spouse, child, family member, or friend, they probably have found there are not many people who understand the deep hurt they feel,” a release announcing the series said. “This can be a confusing time when a person feels isolated and have many questions about things you’ve never faced before.”
Each GriefShare session has three distinct elements:
• Video Seminar with Experts — Each week the GriefShare group will watch a video seminar featuring top experts on grief and recovery subjects. These videos are produced in an television magazine format featuring expert interviews, real-life cast studies, dramatic reenactments and on-location video.
• Support Group Discussion with Focus — After viewing the video, participants will spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in their lives.
• Personal Study and Reflections — During the week participants will have the opportunity to use their workbook for further personal study of the grieving process and to help sort out their emotions through journaling. The group will spend time discussing questions and comments from the workbook study.
Who should come — and who should not: GriefShare is for individuals grieving the death of a family member or friend. It is understood that there are other losses in life that create feelings of grief. These might be a job loss, a divorce, estrangement from a child or the loss of friends because of a move. This grief is real, but it is not the kind of grief discussed in GriefShare sessions. Those in need of this type of help are encouraged to ask a minister, counselor, or church leader for help in finding resources that will be of specific help in their situation.
Evening activities will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a soup dinner followed by the class from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
People are welcome to begin attending the GriefShare group at any session. Each is self-contained, so participants do not have to attend in sequence. Participants will be able to continue with GriefShare through the 13-week cycle and view any of the videos they may have missed.
Anyone interested in reserving a workbook or needing further information can call Fifth Avenue Christian Church at 265-7337. This class is sponsored by the Greater Havre Area Ministerial Association and will be co-facilitated by Frank Donato, Fifth Avenue Christian Church senior minister, and Ila McClenahan, Northern Montana Health Care Pastoral Care coordinator.
