Scholarships available for high school seniors

The Havre Public Schools Education Foundation has 17 scholarship opportunities available for 2017 high school graduates.

The scholarships are for graduating Havre High School seniors who will be attending an accredited institution this fall. In addition, the Dr. James and Kay Elliott Memorial Scholarship is available to students residing in the Northern Montana Healthcare service area, and the Sons of Norway Heritage Scholarship and C.Lowell & Vivian D. Purdy Memorial Scholarship are available to graduates of North Star High School in addition to Havre High students. Past HHS graduates continuing their studies this fall are also eligible to apply for the Gabriel Memorial scholarship.

One online scholarship application form is used to apply for any and all of the scholarships and can be found on the foundation website. Some of the scholarships require specific criteria to apply. The foundation suggests each student look at all the applications and apply for all in which they qualify. Recipients are chosen by the scholarship donor or an award committee. Deadline for applications is midnight April 1, 2017.

$500 — HPSEF Memorial

$1,000 — Bart Nolan Memorial

$500 — Howard Miller Memorial

$1,000 — Friends of Music Band & Choir (2)

$2,000. Dr. James & Kay Elliott Memorial

$500 — PEO AZ

$750 — C. Lowell & Vivian D. Purdy Memorial

$750 — Sue Swan Community Service

$750 — Sons of Norway Heritage (2)

$500 — Wells Lamey Blue Pony Pride

$500 — Thomas Lafond State Farm Up & Coming Entrepreneurial and Tillie Patterson Foundation Memorial (2)

Foundation members said they are pleased to announce the addition of two donors offering scholarships this year. Thomas Lafond State Farm and the Tillie Patterson Foundation will also be awarding scholarships in May to successful applicants.

The Havre Public Schools Education Foundation is a non-profit organization formed to encourage and support excellence in education by raising, accumulating and disbursing funds to improve, enhance and support the educational opportunities for the students of Havre Public Schools.

Nine directors oversee foundation activities: Todd Hanson, president; Rick Sedahl, vice-president; Julie Monson, treasurer; Becky Toth, secretary; Leonard Deppemier, and Jack Maloughney. Superintendent Andy Carlson and Havre Public School Board Trustee Ed Hill serve as ex-officio directors, Cheryl Morse is executive director.
