It was another busy week of boys basketball along the Hi-Line as local teams took the court as early as last Tuesday, as schools look to improve their standing with district tournaments on the horizon.
On Tuesday, the Rocky Boy Stars got a key win within their Class B district by knocking off Cut Bank at home by the score of 85-81. The Stars scored 23 points or more in three of the four quarters and outscored the Wolves 23-19 in the final stanza. Ben Iron Eyes went off in the win for the Stars, with 36 points, including two treys. Kendall Windy Boy added 20 and Chase Corcoran pitched in with 17.
Rocky Boy played again Friday, in an inter-district battle with Malta of the 2B and the battle of Northern B members didn’t disappoint. In the end, the Stars failed to get a win on the road and fell to the Mustangs 51-48. Iron Eyes had 15 in the loss, while Windy Boy added 13.
In the District 9C, there was a key game Tuesday between North Star and Turner. The Tornadoes played host to the Knights, but ultimately, fell short, losing to North Star 52-45. Keevan Borlaug scored 21 for the Knights, while Devon Miller added 18. Eddie Harmon led Turner with 17; Cody Welsh contributed with 16.
The Box Elder Bears got their week started Thursday on the road in Big Sandy. And Box Elder, which has lost just one district game and two games all season, rolled the Pioneers 84-40. Trey Henderson poured in 23 points for Box Elder in the win. Pernell Morsette pitched in with 18 and Pete Azure Jr. added 11. Bryant Jones led Big Sandy with nine.
The only other local team in action Thursday night was Harlem, which paid a visit to Glasgow and was beaten 49-38. The Wildcats got 11 points from Hollin Fox and nine more from Corbin Brockie. Harlem was back in action Friday night at home against Chinook, but dropped that game 51-49 to remain winless on the season.
After beating Big Sandy Thursday, Box Elder was back in action Friday and took down Fort Benton 71-30. Azure Jr. scored 15 to lead all scorers, while Morsette added 14 and Henderson 13. Logan Giles was the only Longhorn to reach double figures with 11.
North Star also played Chester-Joplin-Inverness Friday and got its second straight win of the week, knocking off the Hawks 65-30. Borlaug had another solid game with 19 and Miller also pitched in with 13. Shay Richter and Brett Henke both had seven for CJI.
Also Friday, Hays-Lodge Pole, welcomed Turner into its gym and quickly did away with the Tornadoes with a 74-26 beat down. Tyson Shambo and Chance Main both scored 11 for the Thunderbirds. Harmon led Turner with eight.
Saturday, HLP remained unbeaten, in the 9C, thanks to a 70-19 win over Fort Benton. Frank Runs Above finished with 20 points for the Thunderbirds. Jace Shambo contributed with 10 and Hayden Diekhans scored eight for the Longhorns.
In other 9C action Saturday, Big Sandy got its second win of the season overall and in the district thanks to a 56-52 win over CJI. Jones went off for the Pioneers, scoring 41 points and hitting four times from 3-point range. Shay Richter was the high scorer for CJI wth 15.
Chinook, which defeated Harlem Friday, won its second straight game Saturday, with an impressive 90-22 romping of Turner at home. The Beeters are now 11-5 overall and 7-5 in district play.
