Veterans care should not be partisan

As I look out my window at the cold and snowy winter scene that is currently blanketing Montana, I’m reminded there are homeless veterans in our state who are struggling to find a warm place to sleep and don’t have these idyllic visions of snow and blankets that I do.

There is absolutely no excuse for veterans being homeless in our state. Zero. Zip. None. These are the folks who were on the front lines fighting for our freedoms and to keep roofs over our head.

I can’t understand why Montana hasn’t built 10 assisted living facilities for veterans within the state, let alone the one being requested of the Montana Legislature for the last 10 years.

The Southwest Montana Veterans Home in Butte should not continue to fall victim to Republican partisanship. This is a must-fund part of the Build Montana infrastructure bill being carried by Democrats.

It angers me that Republicans have indicated they won’t support veterans in this state by passing this infrastructure bill as it has been presented and building this new assisted living facility.

If Republicans aren’t willing to do their patriotic duty and support our veterans, then perhaps Montanans should be doing their patriotic duty and voting to remove these Republicans from office in the next election cycle.
