It was another busy week of local boys basketball along the Hi-Line, with the action starting when Turner beat Dodson Tuesday night, 59-57.
Harlem, which has had a tough season, continued its woes Thursday, dropping a home game against District 2B rival Malta by the score of 69-40. Corbin Brockie and Brad Cichosz both scored 11 in the loss for Harlem. Malta got 16 from Nate Costin. The Wildcats followed that up, with a road game against Wolf Point Friday, another game Harlem lost, 65-61. Brockie scored 16, Cichosz had 15 and Brad Man ended up with 14 for Harlem, which remains winless in the district.
As far as the District 9C is concerned, one of the key games this past week, took place Friday night as Hays-Lodge Pole played host to Chinook. The T-Birds, who beat the Sugarbeeters on their own floor earlier this season, completed the sweep, with a 69-40 victory. Tyson Shambo led the way for HLP with 15 points, Frank Runs Above added 11 and Jace Shambo pitched in with nine. Cord Schneider scored the game high with 20 for Chinook. Kyler Johnson also ended up with 10 in defeat.
In other 9C action Friday night, the North Stars Knights hosted Turner and thanks to a stellar offensive effort, cruised to a 77-45 victory over the Tornadoes. Keevan Borlaug had another big outing with 27 points. Devon Miller also contributed with 20 for North Star. Cody Welsh was the top scorer for Turner, with 16 points.
Fort Benton and Big Sandy also did battle within the 9C Friday in Fort Benton and it was the Longhorns, who earned their fourth conference win of the season with a 71-52 triumph over the Pioneers. Andy Giles poured in 20 points for Fort Benton, while Garrett Diekhans finished with 18. Laurence Alderdice paced Big Sandy with 20; Bryant Jones added 13.
The other district game was between Box Elder and Chester-Joplin-Inverness in Chester Friday and the Bears, who came into the week with just one district loss, rolled the Hawks 77-47.
Then, Saturday, Box Elder paid a visit to North Star in a battle of top-3 teams in the 9C and again, it was Box Elder that came out on top, besting the Knights 71-58. Pernell Morsette went off for the Bears, drilling four 3-pointers and scoring a game-high 30 points. Trey Henderson added 16 for Box Elder in the win, while Borlaug had 25 and Miller had 17 in the loss for the Knights.
To keep its lead in the district over the Bears, HLP needed to win Saturday in Chester and did just that, in dominating fashion 77-24. The T-Birds got 11 points from Lance Strike, as well as 10 from Jace Shambo and nine from Runs Above. The Hawks were led by Cory Richter, who scored 17.
