HHS swimmers complete a busy weekend

The busiest weekend of the Havre High swim team's season was also a good one, as the Blue Ponies swam great times in both Great Falls and Missoula.

Friday, Havre was in a triangular meet with Great Falls High and CMR, where the Blue Pony boys battled the Bison to a 142-130 score, and the Rustlers to 154.5-116.5. On the girls side, Havre was edged by GFH 130-125, while powerhouse CMR won 179-99.

Then, Havre headed to Missoula to take part in the prestigious Missoula Invitation Saturday. The Pony girls scored 90 points against the elite field, while the HHS boys scored 45 points.

Individually, Havre's Amelia Miller had a big weekend. At the Missoula Invite, she finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:38.60 and fourth in the 50 free at 26.27. Miller also stood out Friday in Great Falls. She won the 100 free in 56.99, and finished second in the 200 individual medley.

Overall, the HHS girls were strong in Great Falls, with Hannah Lunak winning the 100 backstroke in 1:07.86. She also finished second in the 100 free. Ally Padgett got a third-place finish in the 500 free and a fifth in the 200 free for the Ponies, while Jessica Otto finished fourth in the 100 butterfly. In the relays, Havre was third in the 400 free, third and sixth in the 200 free and third in the 200 medley.

While no Havre boys had a top-six individual finish in Missoula, plenty of Pony boys swam great races against the Bison and Rustlers Friday. Shandon Oberquell got a third-place in the 100 breaststroke, as well as a fifth in the 100 butterfly. Jacob Miller finished third in the 200 IM, and fifth in the 200 free, while Shane Friede was third in the 50 free. Mason Sandstrom was third in the 100 free and fifth in the 50 free, while Ethan Lines got a fourth in the 100 fly and a sixth in the 50 free. Barrett Kilgore placed fifth in the 200 free, and Ammon Lines placed fifth in the 100 backstroke. Havre's relay teams also finished second and fourth in the 200 medley, second and third in the 200 free and third and fourth in the 400 free.

The Blue Ponies have just one meet left before the State Swimming Championships, and that meet will come this Saturday when the Ponies host a strong field at the Havre Community Pool. Havre will also celebrate senior day during the event.
