Blue Pony swimmers post good times in Great Falls

With the Montana State Swimming Championships less than a month away, the Havre High swim teams are going to see some much-needed, stiff competition over the next couple of weeks.

And they saw plenty of it at the Stacy Frey Memorial Meet Saturday in Great Falls.

Against a mostly-Class AA field, the HHS girls placed sixth scoring 93 points, while the pony boys scored 39 points and finished in ninth place. Bozeman High dominated the meet, winning both the boys and girls competitions, while CMR was second on both sides. The meet also included teams from Helena, Butte, Billings Central and Hardin.

And while Havre’s finishes in the team competitions may have been modest, the Ponies still had plenty of good swims.

On the girls side, Amelia Miller had a big day, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.25, while she finished second in the 500 free at 5:36.52. Hannah Lunak was also outstanding, finishing third in the 100 free with a time of 1:00.51 and sixth in the 100 backstroke at 1:07.88. Ally Padgett notched an eighth-place finish in the 200 free, while Havre’s top relay team placed fifth in the 400 free relay.

The Pony boys didn’t have any top individual finishes, but Havre was strong in several relays and still posted some good times against the really strong field of swimmers.

The Ponies will be right back in Great Falls Friday for a meet with GFH and CMR, followed by a trip to the Missoula Invitational Saturday.
