Hello God, it's me, Mara

Honoring dads

You know, Lord, with a New Year having just arrived, we might think about a MAN OF THE YEAR. The one we’re thinking about is not picked by any group. His picture will not be found in any newspapers. Folks may not even recognize him if they were to pass him on the street.

Our Man of the Year is in the middle class income bracket. He gets up every morning by 6:00 so that he is on the job by 8:00. He works hard, not only because he wants to advance, but because he believes his employer deserves a fair deal.

Our Man of the Year gets along with one wife. They have several children whom they love. They teach them to be respectful, law-abiding, and self-reliant. They try to save enough money to send their children off to college, but rising costs makes this a difficult goal.

Our Man of the Year is not ashamed to be considered a patriot. He flies the flag on national holidays. He can not understand those dedicated to the destruction of America.

Our Man of the Year believes in our system of government. He votes at every election. He shares his ideas and convictions with the representatives in his state and commends them for the good work they do.

Our Man of the Year believes in God. He believes that Biblical principles should be punctuated by example, demonstrations and chastisement. He believes children should be taught the commandments as stated in Deut. 6:7-9: “Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

Our Man of the Year is not obsolete, he’s for real. Our Man of the Year is our dad and what better time then the beginning of a New Year to honor him. Thank You, Lord, for our dads.

Love, Mara
