Alex Barkus has been nominated and chosen as a Havre High School December 2016 Student of the Month. Alex is the daughter of Tamara and Jason Barkus and sister to McKenna, 20.
As a junior at Havre High School, Alex said she enjoys playing volleyball and softball and participating in Key Club, Pep Club, Spanish Club, and Yearbook. Outside of school, Alex participates in React and 406 North Volleyball Club. Her hobbies include skiing, wakeboarding and spending time with family.
Alex was nominated by Colleen Patera because Alex is hard working, willing to help those around her, and has a wonderful attitude toward everything she does. Alex is successfully completing dual-credit classes while participating in multiple extracurricular activities. She is able to successfully balance everything she does and shows a drive and dedication rarely seen in a teenager. Patera said, "Alex always has a smile on her face and is willing to lend a helping hand," adding that the school faculty and staff looks forward to Alex's future because of her dedication.
Alex plans on majoring in criminal justice at the University of Montana or Montana State University-Northern. Her long-term goals include becoming a lawyer.
Devyn Solomon has been nominated and chosen as one of Havre High's December 2016 Students of the Month. Devyn is the daughter of Randy and Sandy Solomon and the sister of Dylan Solomon, 8.
As a sophomore at Havre High School, Devyn is active in volleyball and tennis. She said she loves watching Blue Pony sports and participating in other activities, and also loves spending time with her friends and family.
Kendall J. Griggs nominated Devyn as she "embodies the attributes of a Blue Pony in the classroom and on the courts. She is respectful towards her teachers and classmates and comes to school every day with a bright smile and an eagerness to learn." Devyn strives for good grades and benefits from her commitment to being a lifelong learner and a conscientious thinker, he said, adding, "She is an amazing student, well-studied, well-read and always looking for ways to better understand the literature and improve her writing." As a student athlete, Devyn works hard to maintain her grades while fulfilling her obligations to her teammates and family.
Devyn plans on becoming a pharmacist after high school.
