Rocky Boy sets special election for Jan. 10

Nine candidates will compete in a special election Jan. 10 to fill an open seat on the Chippewa Cree Business Committee, attorney general for the tribe LeAnn Montes said Tuesday.

Michelle Billy, Daryl Wright II, Melvin “Junior” Morsette, Dustin J. Whitford, Donovan Stump, Jolene Crebs, Michael “Big Mike” Corcoran, Laurie Sunchild and Russell Standing Rock will be on the ballot.

Montes said the person who garners the most votes will win the seat that had been held by Harlan Gopher Baker. Baker resigned the seat in November after he was elected chair of the Chippewa Cree Business Committtee

Paulette Pipe, chair of the Chippewa Cree Election Board, said the winner of the special election will complete the remainder of Baker’s term, which was slated to end in 2018.

Voting will take place at the Chippewa Cree Wellness Center 8 a.m to  8 p.m., Montes said.

To take part in a tribal election, an individual must be 18 years of age or older, a duly enrolled tribal member and have a tribal identification card with them.
