Monday — Holiday

Tuesday — Transportation is available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; bingo at 1:15 p.m.

Wednesday — Transportation is available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; TOPS at 8 a.m.; cards at 1 p.m.

Thursday — Transportation is available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; cards at 1 p.m.; Kmart/Walmart shopping from 1 to 4 p.m.

Friday — Medical transportation is available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. but people must make a request at least 24 hours in advance

Wednesday — Hamburgers, macaroni salad, baked beans, sliced peaches

Friday — Soup, salad bar, chef’s choice, dessert, milk

United Way campaign underway

It’s the United Way of Hill County 2017 Campaign once again, and we have been selected as one of the agencies to be recpients of their community wide program. The funding we receive is used for the home delivered meals program and our volunteer program. You have been strong supporters of our Senior Program and the United Way. We would appreciate your continued support for the 2017 year. For further information on donations contact the Senior Center or a United Way representative of your choice. Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much. If we all give just a little, I know we will be successful. You can pick up a copy of the pledge form at the Senior Center.

When you support the United Way, you also support the Senior Center.

Don’t crowd the plow

Every winter, vehicles collide with snowplows. Drivers often overestimate the speed plows are traveling and do not allow time to slow down.

Follow these tips to keep yourself, plow drivers and other travelers safe:

• Be on the look out for TowPlows – a steerable trailer-mounted plow that is pulled behind a plow truck. The TowPlow can be rotated to one side of the truck, which significantly increases the plow width. The 26-foot-wide plow gives the operator the ability to clear more area of roadway in one pass.

• Don’t try to pass the TowPlow when deployed, the operator will periodically rotate the TowPlow back in line with the truck to allow vehicles to pass.

• Be aware that plows often work in pairs and trios. The snow cloud created by one plow may obscure additional plows in adjacent lanes.

• When approaching a snowplow from the rear, reduce speed immediately.

When approaching an oncoming plow, don’t crowd the centerline.

• The plow operators know the road well and will pull over as soon as it is safe to do so.

Be patient. Snowplows generally operate at slow speeds to properly clear snow and spread sanding materials.
