Hello God, it's me, Mara

A Star was born

You know, Lord, as You reckon time, just a couple of days ago a Star was born: 2 Peter 3:8: (“Beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousands years, and a thousand years as one day.”)

This unique Star’s purpose? Magi saw the new Star in the east and followed it. Matthew 2:1-2. “behold, Magi from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, ‘Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the East, and have come to worship Him.’”

Herod wasn’t pleased with this news. In their busyness, they’d forgotten to read the scripture where prophets of old had written about the forthcoming birth of a Ruler. The Star was only to point the Way to the birth place of this Child, the Only Begotten Son of God.

Matthew 2:9-10: “When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star, which they had seen in the East, went on before them, until it came and stood over where the young Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly, with great joy. “

The Star from long ago (according to our time!) still points the way to You, Lord.

God is the Giver of the gift of Jesus. We don’t usually think of a person as a gift, but actually interpersonal relationships are the most cherished gifts of all. One day a six-year-old boy answered a knock at the door. It was his father, just returned from Southeast, Asia. He didn’t ask, “Daddy, what did you bring me?” He threw his arms around his father’s neck and said, “Oh, Daddy, this is the best Christmas present I’ve ever had!” God, You gave a Person as a gift to every one of us, and that Person is Jesus Christ.

Love, Mara
