Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation will mark the Christmas season and it’s 100th year with a holiday powwow.
The 2016 Rocky Boy Christmas powwow will take place this Friday and Saturday in the Rocky Boy High School Gymnasium.
Elinor Nault Wright, chair of the Rocky Boy Christmas Powwow Committee, said grand entries will happen Friday at 7 p.m and then Saturday at 1 and 7 p.m.
There will also be a community feed at the event Friday at 5 p.m.
Wright said they are also looking for a Santa Claus who can hand out bags of candy.
Registration for dancers will be Friday at 5 p.m and noon Saturday.
Wright said that tiny tots will be paid $5 per session.
Dances will include traditional, grass, fancy, prairie and chicken dances for men 18-54, teen boys 13-17 and junior boys 7-12. There will be traditional, jingle and fancy dances for women 18-54, teen girls 13-17 and junior girls 7-12. There will also be Golden Age categories for men and women age 55 and older.
Wright said people who want to stay in Havre can make arrangements at the Best Western Plus Havre Inn & Suites, where rooms have already been reserved for powwow-goers.
Tables will also be available for vendors looking to sell arts and crafts at the celebration, but not food, Wright said.
