Locals participate in Make It With Wool contests

Press release

The District 3 Make It With Wool contest was held in Great Falls Oct. 29, with 13 contestants including four area sewists participating.

Shyla Solomon of Havre competed in the PreTeen division with her 68 percent wool simple A-line skirt, matching cape and hat. This was Shyla's first wool outfit and she says she had so much fun working with Granma Jill that she will be sewing again next year. Sewists in the PreTeen division participate at the District level only.

Angelina Toth of Havre competed in the Junior division with her heather gray 100 percent wool challis pants and shirt outfit. Angelina's basic pants will be a go to garment this winter and the shirt features a unique cross-over front that portrays a one-of-a-kind design. Angelina's casual outfit placed second at the District contest which moved her forward to compete in the Montana state Make it With Wool contest held in Billings Dec. 2-3.

Another area contestant, Jasmine Powell also of Havre, competed in the Senior division. She constructed an 86 percent cashmere/wool dress and a 100 percent boiled wool "easy" coat. Jasmine repurposed her cashmere/wool's salvage edge as a decorative trim on her dress hem, sleeve hems, and the edge of the wide bertha collar. She placed first in her category and qualified to compete in the Montana MIWW competition in Billings.

Rosella Higgins of Havre competed in the Made for Other category and constructed a midnight blue 100 percent wool jacket and a smashing pink 100 percent wool skirt for her granddaughter, Angelina Toth. The skirt features two gores in the front and the back, and the jacket is designed from a pajama pattern. Rosella placed second at the District contest and represented District 3 at the Montana MIWW contest.

District 3 includes the counties of Blaine, Broadwater, Cascade, Choteau, Glacier, Hill, Judith Basin, Lewis and Clark, Liberty, Meagher, Pondera, Teton and Toole.

Local District 3 contestants finished well at the Montana MIWW contest held at the Red Lion Hotel and Convention Center in Billings.

Angelina Toth as the Junior representative tied for third place with her challis pants and shirt combo. Rosella Higgins in the Made for Others category placed second with the ensemble modeled by Angelina Toth.

Jasmine Powell was the only sewist in the Senior division this year in the state of Montana, so she automatically moves on to compete in the National Make It With Wool contest at the Denver Marriott City Center Plaza in Denver, Colorado Jan. 26-28.
