Obituary: Darrell L. "Juggie" Denny

Darrell L. "Juggie" Denny, 62, passed away due to natural cause Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, at his residence.

Wake services began at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, and funeral service were at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, all at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rocky Boy. Burial followed in the Rocky Boy Veterans Cemetery.

Darrell was born July 16, 1954, in Fort Belknap to Louie and Angela (Blackbird) Denny. He was raised in Rocky Boy and attended school, first at Busby, then at Chilocco Indian School in Oklahoma. His secondary education was rounded out at Job Corps in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In 1979, Juggie married Irene Makeshine, and together the couple raised their 6 children, first in Riverton, Wyoming, then Billings, Montana, and finally returning to Rocky Boy.

In 1990, Juggie received his certificate in building trades from Stone Child College. He then worked in maintenance and as a laborer for several different employers over the years, including Montana Indian Firefighters, Rocky Boy Schools, Alme Construction, Stone Child College and Mary's Market. In April of 2014, Juggie's health began to decline, and he was forced to stop working.

Juggie enjoyed gambling, playing cards, attending rodeos, watching UFC fighting on television and listening to Native American music. He was a true family man who adored his family, and he loved time spent with them, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Angela Denny; his sisters, Linda Denny and Wilburta Denny; his son, Cody Trottier; his nephew, Bruce "Bruman" Denny; his niece, Angel Denny; his paternal grandparents, Sam Denny and Swinging Girl Sandy; and his maternal grandparents, George and Ella (Cloud Robe) Blackbird.

Juggie is survived by Irene Denny of Rocky Boy, his beloved wife of 37 years; his sons, Harold J. "Woody" (Harriett St. Pierre) Denny, Seneca "SunDance" (Michelle) Standing Rock and Delwayne Denny, all of Rocky Boy, and Lyman "Joe" Ferguson of Great Falls; his daughters, Rena Denny of Missoula and Bernida (Kyle Duran) Denny, Crystal Denny, Sarah (Solomon StandsOverBull) Trottier, Paulette Standing Rock, Leslie Stump-Myers and Jessica Ruthven, all of Rocky Boy; his seven grandchildren; his sisters, Iris Buffalo, Ona M. (Sonny Belcourt) Denny, and Betty Jo Denny, all of Rocky Boy, June (Ray Gerig) Denny of South Dakota, and Ann (George Buck) Denny of Frazier; his brothers, Bruce L. (Wanda) Denny of Lodge Pole, Todd (Verna Birdtail) Denny of Fort Belknap, and Alex (Jamie) Belgard and Robert (Louise) Stump, both of Rocky Boy; and numerous beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
