Northern spikers honored by the Frontier

The Montana State University-Northern volleyball team was much-improved in 2016. And though the Skylights' season ended with a loss to UGF in the first round of the Frontier Conference Tournament, Northern got some outstanding postseason recognition.

The Frontier released its 2016 postseason honors Monday, and many Skylights made the list.

Freshman Timi Severson was one of two Skylights to be named First-Team All-Conference, but she was also named the Frontier Freshman of the Year. Severson, playing middle blocker, finished her first season at MSU-N with 246 kills and 41 blocks, while hitting .328 for the year.

Northern junior Cassie Krueger was also named First-Team All-Conference at outside hitter. Krueger led the Skylights with 280 kills, while hitting .270 for the year. She also 63 digs and 35 blocks.

Senior setter Emily Russell also earned All-Conference honors for the second straight season. Russell was named Second-Team All-Conference after finishing the year with 798 assists 195 digs and 39 blocks.

Severson and fellow freshman Hannah Amtmann were named to the All-Freshman Team as well, while redshirt Sheridan O'Neil earned Northern's Champions of Character Award.

Other Frontier awards included, Carroll College's Jonni Door being named Frontier Player of the Year, Rocky Mountain College's Holland Ferguson earning Newcomer of the Year and Libero of the Year, and Carroll's Moe Boyle being named Coach of the Year.
