Quake sweeps Glacier

The Glacier Nationals were faced with the tough task of taking on the Yellowstone Quake this past weekend and unfortunately for the Nationals, the result of their road trip was a two-game sweep.

Glacier played Yellowstone last Friday and Saturday night in Cody, Wyoming. The Nationals lost the first matchup between the two teams 9-0. Then, they dropped the second game by the score of 7-1. The Nationals have just four points this season and remain in last place in the Frontier Division of the North American Tier 3 Hockey League.

While the final score was lopsided Friday night, the game was actually competitive into the third period. The Quake scored two goals in the first period and added another in the second to make it 3-0. Yellowstone added six goals in the final 11 minutes to make the final margin 9-0.

A big reason for the Quake’s domination was a massive discrepancy in shots on the goal. The Quake finished the game with an astonishing 98 shots, including 42 in the third period alone. Glacier ended the game with 15.

Nick Ottenbacker got the win in net for the Quake, stopping all 15 shots he faced. Will Langstaff, on the other hand, got the loss, despite racking up 83 saves. In all, he saw 89 shot attempts come his way.

Saturday, the story was essentially the same. The Quake pounded Glacier with 27 shots in the opening period and got three goals out of it to take a 3-0 lead. The Nationals got on the board in the second period, thanks to a goal by Jamahl Eckett. And thanks to Brendan Schultz, who turned away all 25 shots from the Quake in the stanza, the Nationals trailed just 3-1 with one period to go.

Yet, the Yellowstone offense finally broke through and thanks to 39 shots on goal, managed four scores to make the final 7-1. Schultz got the loss after allowing seven goals and notching 87 saves. Brady Anderson got the win for the Quake. He stopped nine of the 10 shots he faced.

The Nationals will be on the road again this weekend, playing back-to-back games in Bozeman Friday and Saturday.
