Lights, Skylights run well in Great Falls
In just their second season as an NAIA program, the Montana State University-Northern cross country teams have now wrapped up the regular season.
The Lights and Skylights did that at last week’s UGF Invitational in Great Falls.
The Northern women got an outstanding performance from freshman Rachel David, who finished 15th overall with a time of 20:50.4. David paced the Skylights, who finished sixth with 146 points. Carroll College won the women’s meet with 29 points.
McKenna Barkus finished 32nd for the Skylights with a time of 22:45.7, Courtney Cota placed 39th with a time of 23:21.9, Kaitlyn Nystrom was 40th at 23:21.9, Breck Don was 43rd with a finish of 25:28.8, and Savanna Rose placed 44th with a time of 25:40.5.
On the men’s side, the Lights placed sixth as well, scoring 163 points. The meet, which featured every team in the Frontier Conference, was won by Rocky Mountain College. The Battlin’ Bears scored 36 points.
Beau Hyatt led the Lights with a 29th-place finish in 29:13.4, while Riley Dennis was 33rd at 29:24.3. Luke Karnauskas, running unattached, finished the 8K run in 36th place with a time of 29:44.3, while Curtis Westenskow was 40th at 30:11.7.
Tristan Belgarde came in 41st for the Lights with a time of 30:21.0, Sundance Lodge was 44th at 33:12.0, Justin Seevers placed 45th at 33:53.6 and Patrick Yuhas rounded out the meet, finishing in 48th place with a time of 36:51.1.
The Lights and Skylights of head coach Chad Spangler will now prepare for the 2016 Frontier Conference championships, which will be run Nov. 4 at Bill Roberts Golf Course in Helena. The top team in each race, and the Top 10 runners from each even advance to the NAIA national meet.
