The Glacier Nationals have a long road trip ahead of them. So they were hoping to take advantage of two games against the Bozeman Icedogs this weekend inside the Havre Ice Dome.
Instead, it was the Icedogs who seemed to feel right at home in Havre, as they swept the two-game set with the Nationals. Bozeman won 5-1 Friday night, and followed that up with a 7-2 win Saturday night.
In the second game, the Icedogs were relentless offensively, scoring six goals in the first two periods, while peppering the Glacier goalies with 51 shots. Glacier’s Jonah Gower ended up with 44 saves on the night, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the charging Icedogs as Steven Nisbet scored a hat trick for Bozeman.
Offensively, Glacier managed just 23 shots on goal, and didn’t find the back of the net until the third period. Lindros Beard finally got Glacier on the board at the 3:42 mark when he scored on assists from Spencer Vockel and Zach Houck. Brandon Huntington added Glacier’s second goal later in the period when he scored an unassisted goal.
Glacier’s offense also struggled early in Friday night’s game. While Bozeman scored two in the first and three in the second to lead 5-0, the Nationals didn’t come up with a goal until the 18:34 mark of the third period when Jamahl Eckett scored on an assist from Houck. In all, Glacier managed just 29 shots, while Bozeman had 60 on Gower Brendan Schultz.
The Nationals (1-10-1) will play their next four games on the road, including a doubleheader this coming weekend at the Yellowstone Quake. The Nationals won't play at home agains until Nov. 11 when they host the Helena Bighorns.
