The Montana Tech Orediggers are on a roll right now. And from the start, the Montana State University-Northern lights had little chance to stop that roll.
On Northern's homecoming, the No. 8 Orediggers cruised to a 63-16 win over the Lights Saturday at Blue Pony Stadium.
Tech, which improved to 6-1, jumped out to a 21-0 lead, with two Nolan Saraceni touchdowns. But Northern looked like it had rebounded when Ethan Snow caught a 50-yard TD pass, then the Lights got a break when Tech fumbled a snap on a punt. Down 28-10 syill in the first quarter however, the Lights watched Tech rip off 28 unanswered points to go into halftime up 56-10.
The MSU-N defense held the Orediggers to a lone Saraceni touchdown in the second half, but it wasn't enough. The Lights' only other score came when Holden Maki threw a touchdown pass to Donovan Garner in the fourth quarter.
Saraceni gashed the Lights for nearly 200 yards, while Quinn McQueary also had a big day throwing the football. Zach McKinley rushed for 88 yards for Northern, which fell to 1-6 on the season.
MSU-N will play its next two games on the road, starting next Saturday at Carroll College.
