Black Powder Club holds Christmas Turkey Shoot

The Bullhook Bottoms Black Powder Club held its annual Christmas Turkey Shoot Sunday, Oct. 9 at the Hill County Sports Shooting Range on River Road west of Havre. Twenty shooters participated in the afternoon event with six matches, all five shots each at various distances and positions. Shooting conditions were cool and breezy most of the afternoon.

The winners of the matches were:

25-yard Pistol: 1st Pete Huseby, Havre, 39; 2nd Randy Owens, Havre, 36; 3rd Cameron Griggs, Havre, 32.

25-yard Offhand: 1st Cliff Plum, Havre, 42; 2nd Andy Owens, Havre,  42; 3rd Randy Root, Havre, 41.

50-yard Offhand: 1st Clint Owens, Havre, 43; 2nd Pete Huseby, Havre, 42; 3rd Randy Owens, Havre, 41.

50-yard Cross Sticks: 1st Andy Root, Havre, 49xxx; 2nd Lacey Huseby, Havre, 46; 3rd Pete Huseby, Havre, 45.

50-yard Hunter shot on a six-bull target with three shots offhand and three shots off cross sticks: 1st Cameron Griggs, Havre, 44; 2nd Randy Owens, Havre 43; 3rd Pete Huseby, Havre, 42. 

50-yard Offhand Cartridge: 1st Cliff Plum, Havre, 49; 2nd Dick Hanson, Havre, 48; 3rd Pete Huseby, Havre, 47xx.

In keeping with the holiday spirit, contestants could win only one turkey for the day. Eighteen places were paid out giving every shooter a turkey this year. Sub-Junior shooters Sidney Griggs and Luke Griggs were awarded a gold dollar.
