Hawks, Knights edge closer to the playoffs
There were plenty of important high school football games in the surrounding area over this past weekend, but the local teams with the most important victories, were Chester-Joplin-Inverness and North Star.
The Hawks, who came into their road game with Centerville last Saturday right in the thick of the playoff race in the Northern C of Class C 8-Man football and after getting a 46-28 win over the Miners, improved its playoff position that much more.
Cory Richter was once again the star of the show for the Hawks, as the senior quarterback accounted for five total touchdowns, four rushing and one receiving. The two teams were tied at the half, 20-20, but CJI outscored the Miners 26-8 in the second half to notch the win.
The Hawks are now 4-3 and tied for fourth in the Northern C. They will host Power-Dutton-Brady, the other 4-3 team in the league this Friday in a game that will effectively clinch the final playoff berth for either team.

And finally, the Box Elder Bears, who were winless before this past weekend after being Six-Man football's runner-up a season ago, finally got their first win Saturday at Augusta The Bears, who have had to rely on a number of young players, may have finally enjoyed their breakthrough, as evidenced by the 74-18 win over the Elks. The Bears will play at Heart Butte Saturday in search of a second straight win.
