HHS spikers host Conrad

The Havre High volleyball team has had its share of ups and downs this season. Yet, the Blue Ponies still have plenty of time before the end of the season to get things back on track.

The Ponies started their week of competition Thursday night in Browning against the Indians. Havre, which came into the match with a record of 3-9, got its fourth win of the season after knocking off the Indians in four sets by the scores of 25-20, 25-13, 25-27 and 25-18. The win was the first in conference play for the Ponies, who are now 1-3 in the Central A.

Havre got a combined 12 kills from Ceyara Plante and Claire Worm in its first conference win, while Naomi Terry had 15 assists and eight digs.

The Ponies will look to add their fifth win of the season Saturday when they will host the Conrad Cowgirls at approximately 4:30 p.m., inside the HHS gymnasium.

The Ponies, who defeated Conrad a few weeks ago on the road, will be looking to do something similar this time around and to do that, head coach Tamecia Jarvis said her team needed to start playing together.

"We have just been making a lot of little mistakes," Jarvis said. "But also, we aren't working very well together as a team. We aren't communicating very well with each other. That's something that we need to start doing."

While the Ponies have struggled at times this year, they've had their moments and many of their individual players still rank among the conference leaders. Jacey McDonald is currently leading the Central A in blocks with 31, while Plante is ninth in the same category with 11.5. McDonald is also one of the Central A leaders in assists with 54.

Defensively, Havre is led, not only by McDonald and Plante, who offer a strong presence around the net, but also by Katie Donaldson, who is third in the Central A with 160 digs. Worm also ranks highly on the conference digs list with 128, which puts her seventh.

"I think that we have the talent, we just have to start playing up to our ability," Jarvis said. "We need to fix the little things and get back to playing as a team."

Havre and Conrad will meet Saturday afternoon in the HHS gymnasium. The Ponies then have a week off.
