Grief Poem - HEALing People

We need to heal but we need help, we need a special “chum.”

We need support – someone to share, who knows our heart is numb.

They’re Healing folks — they care a lot; that WE take care of US!

We’re to eat right and get some rest and try hard NOT to fuss!

These Healing folks are here for us, that’s “H” in the word HEAL.

They Empathize, they grant us grace, they know our sorrow’s real.

Accepting us is a big plus; in waves of grief they care,

The “L” is for their Listening ears; they join with us in prayer.

The second year, or third, or fourth, we need abiding trust;

When waves of grief knock us down flat, and we have hit the dust!

Grief waves still come but pass quicker though special days, still rough!

Knocked off balance, we carry on, climbing this road is tough.

Divorce or Death: spouse, parent, child — we need some help to heal.

Missing is hard, but we move on — the pain we feel is real.

This grieving road has no schedule; right now we swing and sway.

Those long-term places must wait a bit, come HEALing folks, today!

Our hope’s in God, He’ll renew us; we’ll soar on eagles wings,

We’ll run and walk and we’ll faint not, for He is King of KINGS!(1)

Thank You, oh Lord, for HEALing folks, they’re near us as we grieve.

Journey of grief — long way to go — someday our pain will leave.

Until that time we carry on, fill us with joy and peace.

Oh Lord, our God, we trust in You, for some day pain will cease.
