Editor,
The initiative I-177 banning trapping on public land is just a start on what is to come.
This initiative is backed by anti-hunting/fishing groups of individuals who in the end want all hunting, trapping and fishing banned.
Should a bill like this ever be passed, our state would see an increase in wildlife diseases, overpopulation and needless death.
I enjoy our Beaver Creek county park very much.
Should I-177 pass, we would see an increase in beaver destruction on our beautiful trees and more dams built by these rodents.
Our streams would then slow, access to your favorite fishing hole be limited.
Skunks and coyotes and foxes can be another serious problem, with the issue of rabies.
There was mention of a badger digging a hole and a tractor of some sort being damaged, written by a woman in Missoula.
Think about this. Those of us who like to ride horses on public land would be at even greater risk should those pesky badgers dig more holes to break a leg in?
This bill (I-177) is not good nor sensible by any means.
There was mention of it being a “no-brainer.” Well, I guess that is correct. Not many brains in the making of this initiative .
Vote against I-177. Let’s keep our heritage for future generations.
