Rocky Boy candidate filing complete

At least 34 candidates have filed to run in primary elections for the Chippewa Cree Business Committee and four others for tribal chair, Kim Hollis, a member of the Chippewa Cree Elections Committee, said Wednesday hours before filing deadline.

Hollis said that a full list of candidates could not be released until about 72 hours after deadline, because background checks must be conducted first, Hollis said.

The primaries are scheduled for Oct 11.

Incumbent Business Committee members Ted Whitford Ted Demontiney and Teddy Russette had filed for re-election. Dustin Whitford did not file for re-election.

Chippewa Cree Tribal Chair Ken St. Marks also filed for re-election.

The top two candidates for tribal chair and the top eight for the business committee will advance to the Nov. 8 general election.

The Havre Daily News will print the full list of candidates once the Election Committee releases their names.
